It’s been a busy week in Spiderwick land! First, news broke that Christian Slater is playing a villain (an ogre, no less) in Disney+’s adaptation of Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi’s Spiderwick Chronicles. But what’s more, the show has also found its leads. Deadline reports that Lyon Daniels (We Can Be Heroes) and Noah Cottrell (Gordita Chronicles) will play twin brothers Jared and Simon in the fantastical series.
This leaves at least one key bit of casting yet to be announced: the twins’ sister, Mallory. The middle-grade Spiderwick stories begin when, after moving to a ratty old mansion in Michigan, the three siblings find a mysterious field guide that introduces them to the world of faerie—a world full of brownies, goblins, boggarts, and more.
The Spiderwick Chronicles were previously adapted into a 2008 movie that starred Freddie Highmore (as both brothers), Mary-Louise Parker, Martin Short, and Seth Rogen. The new series was announced during last year’s Disney+ Day, and since then She-Hulk‘s Kat Coiro has come on board to direct the first two episodes. Aron Eli Coleite (Locke & Key) is the showrunner; the executive producers include Holly Black and Tony DiTerlizzi.
No premiere date has been announced for the series. If there is any justice in the world, this will just be the first of Holly Black’s many faerie stories to be transformed into a series. C’mon, do Folk of the Air next!
